Course Summary

The OCR Cambridge Technicals Extended Certificate in Engineering is one of a new generation of vocational courses developed through the exam board OCR’s links with the University of Cambridge. It is a demanding alternative to A Level Physics which could lead to success in securing an apprenticeship, direct employment in the engineering sector or a place to study an engineering-related degree course at university (if studied alongside Maths A Level).

Students who follow this course will enjoy ‘hands on’ approach to their learning, undertaking a series of projects designed to help them discover how skills and knowledge link together in a working environment. Academic rigor is applied throughout the course which develops the mathematical techniques commonly used to solve engineering problems and explores the supporting science.

The qualification has support from a range of employers including Jaguar Land Rover, Siemens, National Grid, Tata Steel, The Royal Academy of Engineering and The Society of Operational Engineers. Higher education endorsement includes Coventry, Northampton and Manchester Metropolitan universities; a list that will grow as more industrial partnerships are established.
