Course Summary
Our studio facilities are second to none, and offer a unique opportunity to learn the basics of sound recording in a friendly, supportive environment.
For your coursework, you will produce two pieces of practical work. Both feature the use of Logic Pro software on Apple Mac computers. The technology-based composition gives you the opportunity to explore your own creativity via the huge palette of sound manipulation techniques which Logic Pro offers. For the multitrack (studio) recording, you are given the opportunity to make a recording of a pop or rock song chosen from a list of possibilities set by Edexcel.
The two written papers take place under exam conditions at the end of the course. The first is essentially a listening exam. This will test your understanding of the development of music technology in the post-war music industry, and its use in a variety of popular music styles. The second exam will require you to demonstrate your expertise in editing audio and MIDI files in Logic, and demonstrating your understanding of this through written questions.
