Course Summary
You will develop a variety of skills, both practical and academic. You will extend and add to your knowledge of materials, techniques and practices that you’ve already gained at GCSE. We will encourage you to develop your imaginative and creative powers. You will learn how to observe and draw the world around you; how to analyse artwork; how line, shape, colour, light and shade can be employed to create effective pieces of artwork. The emphasis is always on direct observation – recording from real life.
Assessment is based on your practical work so commitment, dedication, enthusiasm and organisation – as well as creativity – will be important qualities to maintain throughout the year. You will be expected to complete at least three to five hours of independent study every week to meet the demands of this course.
